Abstract
YAlO3(YAP) was introduced into Fe60 laser cladding coatings to regulate microstructural evolution and improve wear resistance for agricultural soil-engaging applications. Fe60 coatings containing 0-5 wt.% YAP were systematically investigated in terms of phase constitution, microstructure, hardness, and tribological behavior. YAP addition markedly altered the solidification structure, transforming coarse columnar dendrites into cellular grains. At low additions, YAP promoted microstructural refinement and nanoscale chemical redistribution, whereas excessive addition led to particle agglomeration and grain coarsening. The 1 wt.% YAP coating exhibited the optimal microstructure and the highest microhardness of 678.3 HV0.2, representing a 23% increase compared with the YAP-free coating. Its wear rate decreased by 43.9% to 1.418×10-6 mm3 N-1 m-1. Correspondingly, severe adhesive-abrasive wear was substantially suppressed and replaced by mild abrasive wear accompanied by limited oxidative wear. Further increasing the YAP content deteriorated microstructural homogeneity and wear resistance. These results demonstrate an optimal YAP addition window for enhancing the microstructure and tribological performance of Fe60 laser cladding coatings.
